Taking a Road Trip

If you are keen to really get to grips with the country in which you are planning to vacation, you might consider embarking on a long tour of the place. Hiring a car and driving between major points of interest is perhaps the best way to ensure that you see all of the sights, up close and in person.

There are a variety of reasons why it is more rewarding and fulfilling to drive yourself around the country of your destination. To begin with, you will find that pre-organised group excursions are often fairly limiting in the sense that they run according to a strictly managed schedule of events.

In a car on your own, however, you are free to determine where you drive, what you see and how long you spend at each stopping point. If you are really keen to achieve the ultimate 'life on the road' experience, you might even consider browsing publications advertising used caravans for sale and buying yourself a temporary home that you can set up in whichever city you find yourself.

This kind of trip, in which you are allowed to make all of the important decisions independent of any tour managing company or hotel guide will afford you the opportunity to do precisely what you would like to do without worrying unduly about finding hotels or planning in advance. Most major centres include facilities in which to park a caravan – nature reserves and holiday resorts – and these are not usually so booked out that they couldn't, at short notice, accommodate you for an extra day should you take a liking to a particular place.

In short, the old-fashioned road trip might make for a refreshing change for the polished and pre-organised vacations marketed to the masses. If you are in the process of planning a holiday and you are keen for something different, you might consider hiring yourself a car and driving through your destination country.
