Original, Innovative Tour Itineraries

Throughout the day the tour itinerary features a variety of activities and changes in pace: walking the ground, listening to detailed explanations, sharing quiet moments of reflection.

Explaining the significance of the ground has always played an important role in our portrayal of military operations. Walking the ground enables us to take the group to otherwise inaccessible areas and to approach some of the well-known sites from a fresh perspective. It offers an authentic and incomparable method of understanding the battle, from the point of view of the General who planned it and the soldiers who fought it! Through our innovative style of presentation we strive to offer an absorbing and inspiring experience for each traveller.

Based on an unobtrusive and flexible schedule our programme allows sufficient time to view, visit and walk as much of the specified battlefield area as possible, without feeling pressured.

To minimise disruption during the day, lunch breaks (inclusive of the tour cost) are taken on the battlefield - we provide a substantial picnic box or arrange a light meal in a local café

Focus In Detail

By concentrating each tour on specific areas of the Western Front, Flanders Tours aims to extend the travellers' experience beyond the broad brush approach; we set out to offer a deeper understanding of what happened on the battlefield, and why.

A much appreciated feature of our tour itinerary is the inclusion of stories of selected individuals - whether famous or unknown -with accounts of their deeds set against the backdrop of a battle action.

Off The Beaten Track

In our annual tour programme we include studies of lesser known and less frequently visited battle sites.

On our visits to well-trodden areas of the Somme and Ypres battlefields, we endeavour to introduce our travellers to 'new' ground and battle actions not generally studied by other tour companies.

Our pioneering battlefield presentations on the German side of the story offer a fresh perspective to some of the accepted explanations of what happened from the Allied point of view.
